How fit is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (31)?
Tottenham came from behind to lose 1-2 at home to West Ham in the 15th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League on Monday. It was their fourth defeat in five league games without a win.
After three straight defeats, Tottenham looked to bounce back with a 3-3 draw at Manchester City. However, they then suffered a crushing defeat at home.
To make matters worse, Son Heung-min was injured. In the 36th minute of the second half, he received the ball near the halfway line and collided hard with the opposing defense. As he fell on his back, he was hit hard.
Heung-min screamed in pain and got up, but was replaced by Alejo Velis in the 43rd minute. Son walked off limping. Concerns grew when a video of him in pain even while sitting on the bench went viral on social media.
After the match, Son Heung-min asked about his condition, saying, “I hope I’m okay. I got a kick from an opponent in the back. I haven’t checked with the medical team yet. We have to see what kind of condition it is.”
According to the British media outlet ‘Mirror’, Son Heung-min was positive about his injury, saying, “I’m fine. We have to see what’s going on,” Son responded positively.
However, coach Enzi Postecoglu disagreed, saying, “I don’t know. I’m not sure,” he said. “Postecoglou was not convinced Son had avoided injury,” said the Mirror.
Tottenham are currently in the injury ward. Without key players such as James Maddison, Micky Van der Vaart, and Alexandre Lacazette, Spurs have been weakened. Son Heung-min has been the lone star, but he hasn’t found the back of the net lately. He hasn’t scored an attacking point in his last five games, with the exception of a goal against Manchester City during a winless run.
Postecoglou is unhappy with the current Tottenham offense. “It was a game where we should have scored more goals. We created a lot of chances, but we lacked conviction in the penalty box. We still have a long way to go,” he said. If Son Heung-min is also ruled out, Tottenham will be even weaker.
