Seoul’s Seongdong-gu Youth Baseball Team (manager Kim Hyun-woo) won the long-awaited title in the Youth League Cheongryong final of the 2024 Hwaseong Mayor’s Cup National Youth Baseball Tournament held at Hwaseong Dream Park on Wednesday.
The Seongdong-gu Youth Baseball Team won the championship after a hard-fought 12-10 victory over the Ilsan Giants Youth Baseball Team (manager Choi Young-soo) in the final of the Youth League Cheongryong, the strongest league of the Korea Youth Baseball Federation (president Lee Sang-geun).
The Seongdong-gu Youth Baseball Team won the title at the last National Baseball Tournament, and then won two consecutive titles at the 2024 Hwaseong Mayor’s Bae National Youth Baseball Tournament.
In the finals, they scored six runs in the first three innings against the Ilsan Giants Youth Baseball Team, but gave up a lot of runs in the fourth and fifth innings, making it a tough battle. Add to that the injury to their ‘ace’ Kim Do-bin (Daechi Jung-1), and the game went into a tailspin. Fortunately, the batting lineup of the Seongdong-gu Youth Baseball Team came to life and proudly lifted the U-13 Cheongnyong (U-13) championship in Hwaseong, the strongest league.
The Most Valuable Player award was given to Kim Do-bin (1), who fought through his injury to lead his team to victory.
“Unlike previous tournaments, this tournament has deep meaning,” said Kim Hyun-woo, head coach of the Seongdong-gu Youth Baseball Team. “Not only did we field the largest team, but more importantly, the quality of each team has increased significantly, so there were no easy games.” “We are grateful to our players for their efforts 사설토토 to win the championship, and we will not stop practicing so that we can win the championship at the ‘Hwaseong Mayor’s Bae National Youth Baseball Tournament 2025’ next year,” Kim said.
The Dream League ‘Cheongryong’ championship went to Sejong City Youth Baseball Team, which defeated Incheon Seogu Youth Baseball Team. The best player award went to Sun Ju-ha (Yang Ji-cho 6), who stood out as a pitcher and hitter.
The tournament, co-hosted by Hwaseong City and the Korea Youth Baseball Federation, was held from May 31 to June 3 at all eight fields of Hwaseong Dream Park.
