Right-handed pitcher Ben Lively (32, Cleveland Guardians), who played for the Samsung Lions of the KBO, has become a 10-win pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Lively pitched six innings of one-hit ball with four walks and four strikeouts in a 10-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Feb. 2 (Korea time).
With the win, Lively improved to 10-6 with a 3.42 ERA.
Lively gave up a leadoff double to Gunnar Henderson in the top of the first inning, but settled down to retire the side in order in the second and work out of a bases-loaded jam in the third.
He gave up a solo home run to Anthony Santander in the fourth inning to make it 5-1, but pitched into the sixth inning without allowing another run.
Lively began his professional career in 2013 when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, and made his big league debut in 2017 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
After going 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA in 2017, Lively struggled to accumulate wins in the big leagues and joined Samsung in August 2019 as a replacement foreign pitcher.
He went 6-7 with a 4.26 ERA in 21 games in 2020, but was released in June 2021 after complaining of shoulder pain.
Returning to the United States, Lively signed a minor league contract with Cincinnati in January 2022 and continued to pitch reliably before making his big league debut in May last year.
After becoming a free agent last winter, Lively signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with Cleveland to continue his big league career.
There are plenty of KBO players who have played in the MLB.
Albert Suarez, who went 10-15 with a 3.04 ERA for Samsung from 2022 to 2023, has been a starting pitcher for Baltimore this season, going 5-4 with a 3.89 ERA.
Last year’s KBO Most Valuable Player (MVP), Eric Pedroia, who went 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA for the Chicago White Sox this year, was recently traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, who needed immediate power. 카지노사이트
