‘Marathon swimmer’ Park Jae-hoon finishes third in men’s 1K at Hong Kong Invitational

Park Jae-hoon (23, Seogwipo City Hall) finished third in the men’s 1 kilometer open water swim (marathon swimming) event at the New World Harbor Race 2023.

Park finished third out of nearly 300 swimmers with a time of 28:12.9 in the event held in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood on Wednesday.

Kaiki Furuhata of Japan won the race in 28 minutes, 3.9 seconds, while Chinese Taipei’s Chung Hsiao-hsi was second in 28 minutes, 4 seconds.

The Olympic and Asian Games open water swim is a 10-kilometer event.

Park finished third at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games on July 7 in 1:56:00.3. Open water swim became the first Asian Games event to be included in the program in Hangzhou, 온라인카지노 and Park became the first South Korean medalist in open water swim at an Asian Games.

“It was my first time starting from the water instead of the platform, so I couldn’t adjust to the early position battle,” said Park, who competed in his last international meet of the season in Hong Kong, via the Korean Swimming Federation. “The water was also stronger than I expected, but I’m happy to have won the first international meet I was invited to and the last Open Water Swim meet of the 2023 season.”

It was great to meet and greet the swimmers who competed at the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatics Championships and Hangzhou Asian Games, and we encouraged each other to do our best at the Doha World Aquatics Championships next year.”

“The event, which is held annually to promote swimming in Hong Kong, attracts more than 4,000 swimmers in both elite and masters categories,” said an official from the Hong Kong Swimming Federation. “Park was selected for the invitation because he was among the top five ranked Asian swimmers at the Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships.”

Park received $1,200 (approximately $1.58 million) in prize money.

Park will continue his quest to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, after being selected to represent Korea at the Open Water Swim National Team Trials for the 2024 season last month, alongside men’s Oh Seobum (20-Anyang City Hall) and women’s Lee Dong-rim (27-Gyeongbuk Provincial Office) and Park Jung-ju (25-Anyang City Hall).

Open water swimming has been an Olympic sport since the 2008 Beijing Games, but no Korean athlete has competed in the event.

“I will work even harder to achieve my goal of becoming the first Korean open water swimmer Olympian,” said Park, who has represented the country since 2019 when Korea Swimming established an open water swim team. 바카라사이트
