Samsung loses 6th straight, 22nd straight away game

Professional basketball team Wonju DB surged to the top of the standings, sending Seoul Samsung into the depths of a 22-game losing streak on the road.

DB defeated Samsung 91-67 in a home game of the 2023-2024 regular season at the Wonju General Gymnasium in Gangwon Province on Monday.

With their 16th win, DB extended their lead over second-place Changwon LG (13-5) by two and a half games.

Samsung, on the other hand, also lost on the road, extending its losing streak to a whopping 22 games.

This is the longest streak of consecutive away games in the history of professional basketball, which began in 1997.

The previous longest losing streaks were 18 games by Daegu Dongyang in 1998-1999, SK in 2003, and Samsung in 2021-2022.

With a 3-16 record, Samsung has lost its last six games in a row, dropping to the bottom of the standings.

DB’s Dedrick Lawson paced the team with 25 points, including four 3-pointers. Kim Jong-kyu paced the defense with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Lee Sun Albano led the offense from the perimeter with 17 points and six assists.

For Samsung, 6-foot-9 center Kofi Coburn had 22 points and nine rebounds, but other than Coburn and veteran guard Lee Jung-hyun (11 points), no one else scored in double figures.

Meanwhile, Daegu Kogas, which was stuck in the bottom half of the standings alongside Samsung, escaped from the bottom with an 80-74 win over Goyang Sono.

With their third win of the season, KOGAS (14 losses) dropped Samsung to the bottom of the standings and moved into ninth place. With the blow to the bottom team, Sono dropped one spot to sixth place, tied with Ulsan Hyundai Mobis (8-10).

Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel was the top offensive contributor in the win for KOGAS with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

In addition to his scoring prowess, Belangel played a steady game without committing a single error.

Kim Nak-hyun, returning from injury, also did his part with 12 points and three assists.

In addition to the two players, Duvan Maxwell, Chabawi (over 11 points) and Andrew Nicholson (10 points) also had solid performances with double-digit scoring.

For Sono, Lee Jung-hyun (20 points, 7 assists) and Chinanu Onuaku (17 points, 10 rebounds) split time, but it wasn’t enough to turn the game around. It was painful that their main gun, Jeon Sung-hyun, played 19 minutes and scored only three points. 토토사이트
