Arsenal, who are looking to become Premier League champions for the first time in 20 years, have begun preparing for their victory parade.
“Arsenal are making plans for a parade in case they win the Premier League title,” British media outlet The Sun reported on Sept. 9 (KST).
The 2023-2024 English Premier League season is coming to an end, and the title race is fierce.
Currently, the league leader is Arsenal with 83 points (26 W, 5 D, 5 L) from 36 games. Behind the Gunners is Manchester City (82 points), who have played one game less.
For now, Arsenal can’t clinch the Premier League title on their own. Even if Arsenal wins both of their remaining games, if City wins all three of their remaining games, the standings will be reversed.
For Arsenal, they’ll have to win the rest of their schedule and pray that City drop points in their remaining three games, but they’ve already started planning their victory parade because they still have a chance to win the Premier League.
“Arsenal have finalized the route of their victory parade,” the outlet said, adding that the club has begun preparations to throw a party should they beat City to win the Premier League title.
“This is a requirement that must be submitted in advance with the city council and police as roads will need to be closed,” the source added. “A potential parade plan would see buses leave the Emirates Stadium at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 20, and arrive back at the stadium two hours later.”
During the parade, players ride on buses and travel the streets to celebrate with fans, but local and police cooperation is essential to ensure a safe event, which is why Arsenal and Man City, the two likely Premier League winners, submitted their parade plans in advance.
“Road closures will begin at 4 p.m., an hour before the parade is scheduled to begin, and are expected to be lifted around 9 p.m.,” the media outlet explained.
Arsenal, one of the Premier League’s most prestigious clubs, hasn’t finished at the top of the Premier League in the last 19 years after going undefeated in the 2003-04 season. Last season, the Gunners led the league until the second half of the season, raising hopes of a title run, but a late collapse allowed Man City to come from behind to win the title.
After a disappointing Premier League runner-up finish last season, Arsenal is once again in a tight race for the title with City.
