World No. 168 Ferguson qualifies for De Open with BMW International win

World No. 168 Ewen Ferguson (Scotland) has qualified for the De-Open in dramatic fashion.

Ferguson shot a 4-under 68 in the final round of the DP World Tour’s BMW International at the Eichenreit Munich Golf Club (par-72) in Munich, Germany, on Monday (Aug. 8) for a final total of 18-under 270.

With the victory, Ferguson earned a spot in the Deutsche Bank Major.

The DP World Tour Race to Dubai points ranking as of Aug. 8 is one of the qualifying criteria for the tournament, which begins on Aug. 18, and Ferguson’s victory helped him jump 45 spots in the Race to Dubai points standings.

Ferguson was actually scheduled to compete in the qualifier for the DeOpen, not this event.

He had a good chance of qualifying, but BMW International could only qualify for the Open with a win.

“I had booked a flight to qualify, and then I thought, ‘You never know, I’m on a good run, maybe I’ll win,'” he says, adding that he was glad he took the gamble.

Five players, including Ferguson, qualified for the Open through the DP World Tour Race to Dubai points standings, while two players – the winner and runner-up of the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour – qualified for the Open, bringing the field to 154.

The top three finishers at the Genesis Scottish Open, which begins on May 12, will also qualify for the cut. 안전놀이터
