NBA, 1 Free Throw Penalty for Cheating on Referee Starting New Season

Flopping foul, introduced into the rules separate from regular foul

NBA game

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has decided to award free throws to the opposing team as a penalty for players flopping, which is an act of deceiving referees, starting from the 2024-2025 season.

According to local media outlets such as the Associated Press on the 17th (Korean time), the NBA held a competition committee comprised of team owners and players’ union representatives and decided to introduce flopping fouls into the game rules.

Flopping is the act of falling down without physical contact to trick the referee into calling a foul on an opposing player.

Starting with the new season, if this behavior occurs, the referee will award one free throw to the opposing team of the player who flopped.

At this time, any opposing team participating in the game may take a free throw. However, a player will not be ejected for a flopping foul.

The NBA also decided to exclude overtime scores from goal differential and total points for the new season’s cup competition, the NBA Cup.

Accordingly, in the NBA Cup group stage starting in November, if a game goes into overtime, the goal difference will be set to 0, and overtime scores will not be included in the team’s total score. 파워볼사이트
