‘Lee Seung-yup’s game-winner with 4 pitchers in 7th inning’ Doosan sweeps 2-game series in Daegu+4th-ranked Soosung

The Doosan Bears swept a two-game series in Daegu with a 3-1 victory over the Samsung Lions in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu at 6:30 p.m. on April 22. With the win, Doosan improved to 66 wins, 58 losses, and one draw, further widening the gap on SSG Landers for fourth place.

Samsung started left-hander Choi Chae-hong, who has started 12 of 13 games and has a 7.74 ERA and -1.06 wins above replacement (WAR), but he took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) in five innings, walking one and striking out four.

Doosan started right-hander Choi Seung-yong, who pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, giving up four hits, walking five and striking out two.

Choi faced a bases-loaded situation in the top of the first inning, but struck out Samsung’s No. 6 Kim Hyun-jun to end the inning.

Doosan took a 1-0 lead in the second inning against Choi Chae-hong after a fielder’s choice and a single put runners on first and third with one out and a sacrifice fly to left field. Choi Seung-yong walked in the first and had runners on second and third in the second, but escaped with no outs.

In the top of the third inning, Doosan increased its lead to 3-0 after Kim Jae-ho singled and Rojas doubled, followed by Yang Ji Woo’s two-run double. Yang became the 23rd player in KBO history to reach the 1,000-RBI plateau.

After Choi Seung-yong was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth inning to put runners on first and third, Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop brought up Lee Young-ha. Young-ha caught Samsung’s No. 4 Pirela on a fly ball to right field, and when Kim Sung-yoon, the third baseman, tried to score, Doosan right fielder Cho Su-hyun made a strong shoulder save to end the inning. 안전토토사이트

The bottom of the seventh inning was the decider. After Samsung’s leadoff hitter Kim Ji-chan doubled and moved to third on a throwing error, Ryu Ji-hyeok singled to center field to score the first run for Samsung, and a walk and a wild pitch put runners on first and second with one out. However, Koo could only manage a grounder to the first baseman, and a home run put runners on second and third with only one out. Samsung manager Park Jin-man then made the gamble of using Oh Jae-il to pinch-hit for Pirela in the top of the fourth. Cho Kang-soo, who replaced the No. 4 hitter, who was 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout, drew a walk to load the bases.

In the game’s climax, Samsung’s No. 5, Kang Min-ho, who was down 1-3, grounded out to the pitcher, leaving Samsung Lions Park filled with sorrow.

Doosan manager Lee Seung-yup used four pitchers in the seventh inning, from Lee Young-ha to Hong Gun-hee to Kim Kang-ryul to Kim Myung-shin.

In the end, neither team scored after the extra inning, and in the top of the ninth, Samsung sent Oh Seung-hwan, who hadn’t pitched in 10 days, to the bottom of the ninth with a scoreless inning, and Doosan brought in Chung Chul-won to close out the game, giving Doosan a 3-1 win.
