Nippon Professional Baseball’s Hanshin defeats Yomiuri to win Central League title for first time in 18 years

The Hanshin Tigers of Japanese professional baseball have won the Central League for the first time in 18 years.

Hanshin won a 4-3 home game against the Yomiuri Giants on Sept. 14 at Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

The win improved Hanshin’s record to 80 wins, 토토 4 losses and 44 draws, erasing the magic number one seed for the regular season title and clinching the Central League title.

It was Hanshin’s first Central League title in 18 years, since 2005.

Hanshin advances directly to the final stage of the Climax Series, where they will face the winner of the First Stage, which pits the league’s second- and third-place finishers, for a spot in the Nippon Series.

Hanshin hasn’t won a Nippon Series title since 1985, and this victory will give them a shot at their first Nippon Series title in 38 years.

With the score tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Hanshin took a 3-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Yusuke Oyama and a two-run double by Teruaki Sato.

Hanshin gave up a run to Yomiuri in the top of the seventh, but immediately capitalized on an error to score another run in the bottom of the seventh to maintain a three-run lead.
